1. General Duties
Academic advisors must:
- Address questions and concerns related to all aspects of student life - academic or personal.
- Discuss students' academic progress and identify and try to solve problems.
- Interpret academic policies and explain academic procedures.
- Meet their students at least three times a semester.
- Emphasize the importance of attendance and discipline during their studies.
- Answer their questions and welcome their visit.
- Help new students understand the college's study plan and help them choose the right major for them.
- Provide guidance to graduating students in choosing the right job or career path.
- Help students address academic failures in a timely manner to support improved student retention in college.
- Encourage students to participate in extracurricular student activities in college.
- Help plan the student's study schedule and monitor and follow up on student progress.
- Provide advice for academic success.
2. Prepare the student's academic file
The academic advisor must prepare the student's academic file for each of his students. The file is identified by the student's name and department. The student's academic file includes the following basic documents:
- A copy of the student's personal information form.
- A copy of the student's schedule for the current semester.
- A copy of the student's academic record.
- A copy of documents related to various academic processes such as adding/dropping, deferring, excuses for absence, etc.
- A copy of academic forms
3. Periodic meetings.
The student advisor meets with his students at least three times. As for students who are struggling or frequently absent, they have their own meetings. All personal information of students is kept confidential and no one is exposed to it.
