Council of the Department of Hadith Studies

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Recommending the approval of study plans and any amendments thereto.
2. Recommending the approval of academic programs, curricula, prescribed textbooks, and reference materials within the department.
3. Nominating distinguished scholars and specialists on a part-time basis to teach courses or supervise research projects and theses.
4. Proposing and recommending the appointment of visiting specialists, both Saudi and non-Saudi, for a specified period to teach in the department.
5. Proposing admission and transfer regulations to and from the department.
6. Forming permanent and ad hoc committees related to the department.
7. Reviewing matters concerning faculty members, including contract requests, transfers, academic leave, scholarly achievements following leave, promotions, and appointments under the talent recruitment system, and making appropriate recommendations.
8. Reviewing matters concerning postgraduate students, including deferment, course withdrawal, requests for additional study periods, re-enrollment, appointment of supervisors, submission of theses and formation of examination committees, degree awards, study plan amendments, admission procedures, and comprehensive examinations, and making appropriate recommendations.
9. Proposing new academic programs and development initiatives related to the programs offered by the college.
10. Nominating candidates for international awards when nominations are requested.
11. Reviewing course equivalency requests and recommending whether equivalency should be granted.
12. Considering any matters referred to it by the College Council or its Chairperson for study and opinion.

Academic Affairs

• Recommending that a student be allowed to enroll in additional courses when all graduation requirements have been completed but the cumulative GPA remains below the required threshold.
• Recommending the transfer and equivalency of courses completed at other universities.
• Recommending the formation of examination question review committees.
• Approving the distribution of teaching loads and academic duties among faculty members and equivalent academic staff.
• Recommending the issuance of a one-time economy-class travel ticket when a student's academic program requires travel outside the city of study.

Saudi Faculty Affairs

• Recommending the appointment of faculty members at the rank of Assistant Professor.
• Recommending the appointment of lecturers and teaching assistants.
• Recommending faculty promotions to Associate Professor or Professor and nominating qualified external reviewers.
• Recommending sabbatical leave for eligible faculty members in accordance with university regulations.
• Recommending approval of scholarly achievements completed during sabbatical leave.
• Recommending approval for faculty members to serve as part-time consultants for government agencies, private sector organizations, and regional or international bodies.
• Recommending faculty participation in conferences and academic seminars inside and outside the Kingdom.
• Recommending the secondment of faculty members and equivalent staff to government entities.
• Recommending the loan of services of faculty members and equivalent staff.
• Recommending academic assignments outside the university.
• Recommending overseas teaching assignments.
• Recommending acceptance of faculty resignations or requests for early retirement.
• Recommending the appointment of part-time professors for renewable terms.
• Recommending the engagement of distinguished Saudi professionals from outside the university for teaching purposes.
• Recommending the transfer of faculty members between departments within the college.
• Recommending the transfer of faculty members between colleges within the university.
• Recommending the transfer of faculty members to positions outside the university.

Non-Saudi Faculty Affairs

• Recommending employment beyond the standard retirement age within approved limits.
• Recommending recognition of relevant professional experience outside university teaching.
• Recommending participation in academic conferences and seminars.

Scholarship and Training Affairs

• Recommending scholarships for teaching assistants and lecturers, including extensions or termination of scholarships.
• Recommending approval for changes in a scholarship recipient’s specialization, university, or country of study.
• Recommending suspension of scholarship benefits in cases of regulatory violations or failure to meet scholarship requirements.
• Recommending approval of academic field trips for scholarship recipients.
• Assigning academic or administrative duties to internally sponsored teaching assistants and lecturers, provided such duties do not affect their academic progress.

Graduate Studies Affairs

• Recommending additional admission requirements for Master's and Ph.D. programs.
• Recommending admission of students to graduate programs outside their original field of study.
• Recommending additional enrollment periods for graduate students based on the supervisor’s report.
• Recommending credit transfer and course equivalency for students transferring from recognized universities.
• Recommending approval of alternative examinations and multi-semester graduate courses.
• Recommending comprehensive written and oral examinations for graduate students upon completion of required coursework.
• Proposing the appointment of an alternative thesis supervisor when necessary.
• Recommending the formation of thesis and dissertation examination committees.
• Recommending approval of admission deferrals.
• Recommending approval of complete semester course withdrawals.
• Recommending acceptance of transfer students from recognized universities.
• Proposing supervisors for theses and dissertations.
• Proposing diploma program requirements and certificate titles.
• Recommending student re-enrollment following cancellation of registration.
• Recommending the appointment of experienced and qualified non-university specialists to supervise theses and dissertations.
