Planning

  • Organizing and chairing department council meetings, overseeing departmental affairs, implementing council resolutions, and submitting meeting minutes to the Dean.
  • Conducting performance evaluations of faculty members, teaching assistants, lecturers, and newly appointed academic staff.
  • Proposing the formation of permanent and ad hoc departmental committees and nominating their members.
  • Nominating academic advisors and supervisors for graduate students.
  • Nominating coordinators for shared courses.
  • Reporting the commencement of duties of faculty members on sabbatical leave or scholarship programs.
  • Submitting the names of faculty members participating in distance learning and summer semester programs.
  • Recommending teaching overload compensation for faculty members and equivalent academic staff when their teaching load exceeds the prescribed limit.
  • Supporting the achievement of the university’s strategic goals and policies.
  • Implementing decisions issued by the College Council and other higher authorities concerning the department.

Oversight and Follow-up

  • Supervising the preparation of the department’s strategic plan and monitoring its implementation.
  • Overseeing academic, research, administrative, financial, and cultural affairs within the department and ensuring the regularity of operations.
  • Supervising the department’s administrative, academic, and research development.
  • Providing guidance to faculty members, encouraging scholarly research, coordinating research activities, and supporting publication efforts.
  • Monitoring the submission, approval, and recording of course grades and reviewing grade change requests.
  • Monitoring faculty performance in assigned duties, including office hours, class attendance, examination invigilation, and submission of course reports through the Itqan system.
  • Reviewing and approving reports submitted by academic supervisors and advisors.
  • Supervising and approving class schedules and examination invigilation schedules.
  • Overseeing the department’s staffing and resource requirements, including faculty, technical, and administrative personnel.
  • Coordinating with the Scholarship and Training Committee regarding scholarship recipients and trainees.
  • Receiving correspondence and requests submitted by faculty members and students and taking the appropriate action.

Evaluation and Reporting

  • Submitting periodic reports to the Dean on departmental performance, assigned responsibilities, and operational challenges.
  • Reporting unresolved violations or failures by faculty members and equivalent academic staff to the Dean.
  • Preparing an annual comprehensive report on the department’s activities, recommendations, and decisions.
  • Submitting reports to the College Council on the academic progress of scholarship recipients after half of their study period has elapsed.
  • Submitting an annual detailed report on scholarship affairs within the department to the College Council after departmental approval.
