The Deanship of Scientific Research at the Islamic University was established pursuant to Resolution No. 161 issued by the University's Higher Council during its fourteenth session, held on 27-28 Rabi' al-Awwal 1404 AH. The resolution provided for the establishment of a Scientific Research Center at the University. The Center was created with the objective of contributing to the enrichment of Islamic and Arabic research and studies, as well as the preservation and revival of Islamic heritage.
The Center consisted of several departments, namely: the Authorship Department, Manuscript Verification Department, Translation Department, Publishing Department, Library and Documentation Department, and the Administrative and Financial Affairs Department.
In 1419 AH, royal approval was granted to the resolution of the Council of Higher Education and Universities to transform the Scientific Research Center at the Islamic University into a Deanship of Scientific Research. This change was not merely a change in name; rather, it reflected the development of the Deanship's functions and the expansion of its responsibilities. As a result, several new departments were established, including the Scientific Relations Department and the Publications Department.
