Scientific Council

About Department

The Secretariat of the Scientific Council is an administrative unit affiliated with the University Vice Presidency for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research. The Scientific Council considers a wide range of matters and responsibilities stipulated in the Higher Education and Universities Law. Its key responsibilities include considering and making recommendations on academic appointments and promotions, scholarly publishing, academic sabbaticals, scientific communication, the engagement of part-time professors, and other related matters.

The role of Scientific Councils at Saudi universities has undergone a significant transformation in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030 and the implementation of the new Universities Law. The Council’s role is no longer limited to routine procedures and traditional academic promotion processes; rather, it has evolved into a strategic arm for enhancing university autonomy, improving global rankings, and advancing the transition toward a knowledge- and innovation-based economy.
