The Islamic University Council's Resolution No.: 292/1431/1432 AH, in its session held on: 25 Rabi' al-Thani 1432 AH, stipulated the establishment of the Student Counseling Center at the Islamic University of Madinah, in order to provide comprehensive counseling services to students in academic, psychological, social, and professional aspects, and to achieve self and social harmony for students.
Academic and student counseling is closely linked to the primary function of the university, which is education. The university, by the nature of its work, is an educational institution responsible for providing educational services to its students, who are in need of awareness and academic, psychological, and social assistance and services. Therefore, Saudi universities adopted the idea of establishing student counseling centers. The establishment of the Student Counseling Center at the Islamic University has received increasing attention recently, out of the realization of the importance of counseling for university students given their need to adapt to new variables, and the effective role it plays in building the learner's personality, motivating them to give, and overcoming the difficulties that stand in their way. The Islamic University is also distinguished by its uniqueness and exclusivity among Saudi universities; due to the diversity of nationalities coming to it from more than (160) countries, and the resulting differences in cultures, norms, customs, social upbringing, academic backgrounds, and previous experiences. Hence, they need guidance and counseling to adapt to Saudi society in general, and the university community in particular, in addition to the resulting various educational, psychological, and social problems that some students may be exposed to, especially expatriates among them due to the distance from their countries and families, which negatively affects their academic progress and achievement.
Therefore, the Counseling Center seeks to care for university students in all academic, psychological, social, and familial fields and provides them with all the guidance, advice, and counsel they need.
The Student Counseling Center at the university also operates according to an annual plan to supervise the counseling work in the counseling units in the university's colleges, in an effort to develop the skills and capabilities of academic advisors; which reflects positively on helping students by providing various counseling services to them.
Given the importance of academic and student counseling in the university's colleges, the Permanent Committee for Academic Affairs approved in its session No. (5/5) dated 29/4/1434 AH the working mechanism in the student counseling unit in educational entities, which was formed in every college of the university. It is established by a decision from the Dean of the College and is concerned with planning, coordinating, and supervising the implementation of the student counseling process in the college, and under the direct supervision of the Vice Dean for Student Affairs,,,
